I had a non-traditional path into medical school, and I am one of the oldest in my cohort. Both of my parents are nurses, and I am a first generation medical student.
I became interested in surgery after shadowing an orthopedist and working in the emergency department seeing the trauma surgeons come in and take the critically ill patients and rush them into surgery. I like working with my hands and solving problems quickly, which I feel surgery will allow me to do.
